Invasive Japanese Knotweed
One minute I’m planning and sowing. Then watering like crazy trying to keep everything alive in sweltering June.. July was the wettest on record..
Now, there are gaps appearing on my plot.. Telling me that things are winding down and my evening visits are shorter now..
My roots bed is almost empty apart from the Parsnips – Carrots and Beetroot have been harvested. Peas were over weeks ago. My Potatoes will be up this week, which leaves half the plot empty. I’ve still got Toms, Sweetcorn Brassicas … 3 Cauils have been harvested the other 3 are sulking and refusing to grow up. Every time I check they don’t look any bigger.. Cabbages and Brussels are OK, though annoyed by all the attention of the white fly..
I have my body weight in runner beans and my asparagus beans cant make up their minds whether to climb the pole or not. I swear they didn’t grow an inch in July. I’m not sure they will pod now, they don’t look happy. Onions are drying out. Leeks are doing well.. No thanks to me. God, I’ve put them in a stupid place. They don’t seem to mind though, they look healthier than last years pencil size. And then there’s the squash. The jury is still out on those, I think I may have mini squash this year, if any. As they don’t seem to be getting bigger.. They’ve only just started to spread and flower. later than last year.
My fridge has been invaded by courgettes, patiently waiting for me to come up with something a little more original than soup to freeze..
My Carrots were great this year, the best so far but you’ll have to take my word for it as I’ve been pretty lame in taking photo’s.
I’ve deliberately cut back on what I’m growing this year as I wanted to concentrate on clearing the back. I’m still clearing after 3 years. The plum seedlings have now gone and I’m preparing that area for a couple of apple and cherry trees.. Figure that out, remove trees to replace with trees, albeit dwarf ones.. I have some photo’s of what it looked like last year and its not for the faint hearted…
I really should do a photo update as at times it feels progress has been slow then I look back over previous photos, see how much I have actually achieved and give myself a pat on the back.
